A Tamil-speaking factory worker suffered a partial amputation and open finger fracture when attempting to fix a machine. They were referred for rehabilitation 31 days post-injury, undergoing an Initial Assessment and Worksite Assessment with Kairros facilitated by Kairros Interpreter Service (KIS) who were able to provide an interpreter in the client’s first language. Kairros facilitated an early specialist review to achieve upgrade from no capacity to pre-injury hours and suitable duties within two weeks of referral. Through further medical case conferences and consistent stakeholder contacts, where the client felt confident in being able to communicate more accurately using the interpreter, Kairros supported the client to achieve pre-injury duties certification just 37 days following referral and significantly faster than anticipated according to the Official Disability Guidelines.
A 52-year-old Mandarin-speaking labourer was struck as a pedestrian, resulting in bilateral rib fractures, pneumothorax, deep forehead laceration, head of fibular and tibial plateau fracture. The client spent one month in hospital before being transferred to a rehabilitation facility. They were referred for rehabilitation 35 days post-injury, undergoing an Initial Needs Assessment with one of our Mandarin-speaking consultants. Kairros conducted medical case conferences and consistent client contact to overcome communication barriers and cultural differences in understanding the Australian rehabilitation process, supporting the client to achieve a pre-injury duties certification and RTW just 91 days following referral and significantly faster than anticipated according to the Official Disability Guidelines.
